About the Role
Business Development Officer
CODED — The First Tech & AI Academy in the Arab World
About CODED
CODED is the first tech and AI academy in the Arab world, and the region's go-to place for technology and AI education. We build real technical capability — software engineering, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, and emerging technologies — across individuals, youth, and enterprises.
What we are building is talent density. Not headcount. Not volume. A concentrated pool of genuinely exceptional people, inside CODED and across the market we serve.
We only aspire to work with people who are excellent at what they do, and who raise the standard of everyone around them.
On the enterprise side, our clients are banks, ministries, corporates, and family businesses trying to close a capability gap. They do not buy a course. They buy an outcome — and they decide based on how well we understand their problem and how clearly we write it back to them.
The Role: Business Development Officer
The Business Development Officer is the person who turns a conversation into a signed deal.
This role sits at the front of the enterprise funnel and owns small-size deals end to end — from first contact through proposal, pitch, negotiation, and close. Larger and more complex deals are led by the BD Manager, with this role contributing the research, structure, and written work that makes those deals winnable.
The core craft of this role is proposal writing. Everything else supports it.
Three domains:
- Proposals & Written Communication
- Outreach & Pipeline
- Pitching & Closing Small Deals
I. Proposals & Written Communication (Core Domain)
- Write clear, persuasive, technically accurate proposals in professional English
- Translate a client's stated problem into a scoped programme with objectives, outcomes, structure, and pricing
- Format and present proposals to a high standard — the document itself is part of the pitch
- Maintain and improve a reusable proposal library, template set, and content bank
- Handle RFP and tender submissions: read requirements carefully, respond completely, submit on time
- Coordinate with the education, R&D, and curriculum teams to ensure what we propose is what we can deliver
Objective: every proposal that leaves CODED reads like it was written by someone who understood the client.
II. Outreach & Pipeline
- Identify and research target companies, sectors, and decision-makers
- Run structured outreach — email, LinkedIn, calls, events — to open new conversations
- Qualify inbound and outbound leads properly before consuming the team's time
- Keep the CRM accurate and current: every contact, meeting, stage, and next step logged
- Track competitor activity and market movement, and feed it back to the BD Manager
- Build and maintain relationships so CODED stays in mind when a budget opens
Objective: a pipeline that is real, current, and visible.
III. Pitching & Closing Small Deals
- Prepare and deliver client presentations with confidence and clarity
- Speak credibly about technical subjects — software engineering, AI, cybersecurity, data — without overclaiming
- Own small-size deals end to end: qualify, propose, pitch, negotiate, close
- Support the BD Manager on large and complex deals with research, materials, and follow-through
- Manage post-close handover to operations so delivery starts cleanly
- Follow up relentlessly — most deals are lost to silence, not to a competitor
Objective: deals close because someone stayed on them.
Why This Role Is Critical
Enterprise revenue at CODED is won or lost in a document and a meeting. A strong technical proposal, written well and delivered by someone who can hold a room, is our highest-leverage sales asset.
Without this role:
- Proposals get written under time pressure by people whose job is something else.
- Small deals go unworked because senior time goes to large ones.
- Good leads go cold in a spreadsheet.
What We're Looking For
- 2–4 years in business development, sales, consulting, or a proposal/bid role
- Excellent written English — this is non-negotiable and will be tested
- Genuine comfort with technical vocabulary: able to discuss software engineering, AI, cybersecurity, and data without bluffing
- Strong document craft — formatting, structure, and visual presentation of proposals and decks
- Comfortable using AI tools to research, draft, and accelerate proposal work
- Presentable, professional, and confident in front of senior client stakeholders
- Evidence of pitching potential: you enjoy the room, you do not survive it
- Organised and disciplined with CRM and follow-up
- Fluent Arabic and English
- Bachelor's degree; business, engineering, or IT background is an advantage
- Experience selling to Kuwaiti or GCC corporates and government entities is a strong plus
This is a role for someone early in a business development career who wants to build real commercial craft — writing, pitching, and closing — under an experienced BD Manager.
